JEDDAH: Rain, thunder, sandstorms and a steep drop in temperature are expected across various parts of the Kingdom starting Thursday, according to the Meteorology and Environmental Protection Authority (MEPA). The inclement weather is expected to last for six days, MEPA said in a statement. It said an active north wind would affect Makkah, Madina's inner areas, Hail and the northern borders. The movement of the wind will result in the formation of low and medium clouds, and clouds bringing thunder and rain. In its weather forecast report released Wednesday, it predicted that rain would lash Makkah Region, including the coast, Madina and parts of Hail and Qassim from Thursday to Saturday morning. This will be associated with a shift of the wind to the west, with an active North-West wind inducing sand and dust storms in Tabuk, Jouf, Hail, northern borders and the northern areas. The Kingdom's western and central parts may be affected by sandstorms especially in open areas. This will be associated with a tangible drop in temperature. The MEPA has called on picnickers at the coast, fishermen and highway users to be cautious and to abide by the directions of the authorities throughout any weather changes. It said the general administration for analysis and forecasting at MEPA will keep a close watch and analyze weather changes throughout the day, in order to issue forecasts and necessary precautions.
