(SPA photo) DHULM: A camel has been sold for SR3 million at Al-Khorma, east of Taif, the highest price paid for a camel in the governorate. The sale coincided with the “King Abdul Aziz Prize Festival for Camel Beauty Contest,” which was held in at Umm Ruqaiba, some 350 km northeast of Riyadh. The high-priced creature is called Nomas, known as the best breed in the area and distinguished for its white color. On the eve of the beauty contest, camel prices have gone up dramatically. The highest deal of the season was clinched last Nov. when a camel owner bought 10 camels at SR50 million at SR 5 million each. The second highest sales of camels this year were made when Huza Abu Al-Ros bought 15 rare camels for SR60 million at the Umm Ruqiba Camel Market last Nov. too. Prizes at the annual contest are worth SR40 million and 300 vehicles given away to the owners of Miss Camels. Experts say the prices have been driven up because some businessmen are keen to possess camels of rare breeds.
