JEDDAH: The Ministry of Social Affairs revealed Tuesday that some businessmen, academics and civil servants are circumventing the law to get financial aid from the Social Security program by adding their names to the list of beneficiaries. Muhammad Al-Lahyani, director of Social Security in Makkah, said thorough auditing and monthly updates of beneficiary lists made it possible for authorities to find those who illegally get money from the Social Security program. The social security funds going to unlawful beneficiaries have been stopped, he said. The computerized system is linked to government agencies including Passports, Pension and Retirement, the General Organization of Social Insurance (GOSI) and ministries of Civil Service and Labor, which helped uncover the illegal claims, he said.
