ABHA: The General Court in Abha attested Sunday the confessions of a Saudi man who admitted torturing and killing an Indonesian housemaid in the second week of November. The man said he carried out his act because of disputes between the housemaid and his mother and his intention was to upgrade the standard of her care for his mother, according to authorities. The attestation of the confessions comes in preparation for the case moving to the Shariah Court and issuance of a verdict. The maid's sponsor ( Kafeel) tortured, beat up, and inflicted grievous harm on her until she was unable to move, authorities said. Investigations revealed that the sponsor tried to hide his deed by keeping the housemaid in the house and hoping she would recover. After giving up hope that she would get better, he killed her with an iron tool and put her body in a garbage dumpster on a street, authorities said. The sponsor's wife was taken into custody for two weeks, pending investigations, and she was released after admitting that she knew what her husband was doing to the maid, authorities said. The Shariah Court is scheduled to look into her cover up of her husband's actions, authorities added. The man's confessions came after he was referred by the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution to the court, after he admitted torturing the housemaid, according to authorities. Dr. Hadi Bin Ali Al-Yami, a member of the Board of Directors of the Human Rights Commission, said he assigned a Board member to follow up the details of the case with the concerned security authorities. “Our task is to follow up the case with the government and legal authorities in the BIP and get acquainted with the progress of the case and investigations from all aspects and go through the medical reports,” he said. “The case has taken its legal course and the procedures followed are correct and legal from all aspects. We will follow the litigation procedures until the Shariah Court looks into the case and issues the Shariah penalty.”
