RIYADH: King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Friday had a successful surgery in New York for stabilizing vertebrae in his spinal column, a Royal Court statement said. The surgery was according to the treatment plan recommended by the medical team, it said. The second stage of the physiotherapy sessions will start after the surgery, the statement added. The Royal Court will continue to issue statements on the King's health with all transparency according to the King's directives, Saudi Press Agency said. The second operation was the completion of earlier surgery in New York last week after a blood clot complicated a slipped disc, a Royal Court statement released earlier in the day said. Meanwhile, Prince Turki Al-Faisal, former Saudi intelligence chief, said in Bahrian Friday that the King was well. “He had an operation today and I hope he soon gets better,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a Gulf security conference. On Nov. 25, King Abdullah underwent surgery on his back in New York after a blood clot complicated a slipped spinal disc.
