(Okaz photo)JEDDAH: An Indonesian housemaid died Thursday when she tried to escape from a third-floor apartment in Jeddah's Al-Safa District. According to the authorities, she attempted to escape using a rope of knotted clothes. Owner of the apartment told Okaz/ Saudi Gazette the housemaid had escaped from her original sponsor in Hail. He said that the maid's sponsor had contacted him from Hail and asked him not to let go of her so that he could come and take her back with him. But the maid tried to escape and died as a result, he added. Second Lt. Naif Al-Wafidi, from Northern Jeddah Police Station, said the operations room received a report about the incident and police found the woman's body lying in a pool of blood. Al-Wafidi said the housemaid tried to escape through the apartment's window using a rope of knotted clothes but she fell on the ground and died instantly. He said the housemaid's body would be transferred to the Forensic Medicine Administration to determine whether there are injuries other than those caused by the fall. If it is confirmed that there was no foul play involved, an official letter will be sent to her country's consulate in preparation for her burial, he added.
