Faisal, Emir of Makkah and Chairman of the Central Haj Committee, launched Saturday four Haj development projects due to be completed by next year's pilgrimage. The projects, worth over SR6 billion, entail flattening and leveling hills and other areas of land, and the lowlands at the holy site of Arafat to increase pilgrim capacities, and the installation of additional toilet services in Makkah, at the holy sites and at transport facilities. Prince Khaled ordered a series of committees to study and address observations noted during this year's pilgrimage such as accumulation of garbage, pilgrims sleeping outdoors in public areas, pilgrims without permits, and the illegal entry of some small vehicles.
