Jeddah: The Board of Grievances has overturned 30 percent of all decisions taken by various government bodies against residents and citizens, according to judicial sources. The bodies that had their decisions overturned include the ministries of Health, Municipal and Rural Affairs, Transportation, Haj, Education, and the Passports Department. The decisions were overturned because these bodies had overstepped their powers, among other irregularities, according to sources. Mayoralties and municipalities were among the main culprits issuing unsound judgments against citizens and residents. Citing examples, sources said the courts made it mandatory for some municipalities to implement contracts they have revoked and also canceled fines imposed by the Ministry of Health on citizens and residents. Also, the Passports Department was ordered to return vehicles used to smuggle illegal aliens, and ordered the Ministry of Education to renew licenses of some private schools. Some fines imposed by the Ministry of Haj were also overturned. They said some of the judges at the administrative courts are in the process of writing out explanations for overturning the decisions. The judges are expected to point out that many of the decisions taken were not explained adequately, and the accused were also not told they had the right to appeal the decisions within 30 to 60 days.
