Phoenix tops in Pacific Division
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 25 - 11 - 2010

GLENDALE, Arizona: The Phoenix Coyotes seized the top spot in the Pacific Division with a 5-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers Tuesday, their seventh straight victory.
Phoenix's streak is tied with the St. Louis Blues for the longest in the NHL this season.
Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov made 23 saves to give the Coyotes their second victory over the Oilers in four days.
Martin Hanzal and Lee Stempniak scored two goals each while Wojtek Wolski added one to help Phoenix (11-5-5) move one point ahead of the Los Angeles Kings in the division.
“Early in the season, we were undisciplined,” Hanzal told reporters of his team's 4-5-5 start to the season. “Once we stopped taking penalties and putting ourselves in bad spots, we started winning games. It was pretty easy.”
Devan Dubnyk made 29 saves for the Oilers (5-11-4), who have lost seven of their last eight games and have the worst record in the Western Conference.
Edmonton was coming off a 4-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday when Dubnyk had 38 saves, but the Coyotes quickly killed the Oilers' momentum.
Hanzal gave the home team a 1-0 lead just 48 seconds into the game and Phoenix added two goals in both the second and third periods.
After making the playoffs last season for the first time since 2002, the Coyotes have continued to build and while Stempniak is the team's leading scorer with seven, the Coyotes have 11 forwards with at least three goals.
“We are a team in every sense of the word,” said Coyotes' coach Dave Tippett.
“Every night, someone different contributes and we have a team that recognizes how we have to play to be successful.
“Our goaltending has been great and we have a group that is working pretty hard right now.”
