JEDDAH: Recruitment of workers from Sri Lanka has ceased because the country is not abiding by conditions agreed on in the contracts or complying with the guarantees and is charging as much as SR7,500, Ali Al-Qurashi, a member of the Recruitment Committee in Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry told Okaz/Saudi Gazette. Al-Qurashi said Saudi officials and authorities in Mali are working to arrange recruitment of workers from the African country, after completion of procedures and opening a school and company there to educate women who want to work in the Kingdom. He expects recruitment of workers from Mali to start in 18 months. There has been official correspondence with authorities in India regarding recruitment of domestic workers, but Indian officials' conditions and illogical demands have stopped those efforts, Al-Qurashi said. He said the conditions include a stipulation that the maids have already worked in the Kingdom. “This is not reasonable because recruitment from India has never been opened before,” he said, adding that Indian officials require that the workers are at least 40 years of age. Al-Qurashi added that current problems with officials in Indonesia have not prevented Indonesian workers from coming to the Kingdom.
