The Indian volunteers in Mina. (SG photo) MINA: A group of 800 Indian volunteers have given their time this year to help pilgrims perform the holy pilgrimage. Over 90 percent are from Jeddah while the rest are from Makkah, Madina and Yanbu. They are members of an organization named the Haj Welfare Forum. Most are from the southern Indian state of Kerala. Mohammad Kutty, the leader of the group, said their tasks included helping pilgrims to the ritual sites or their camps, and taking them to hospital. “We carried sick pilgrims to clinics of the Indian Haj Mission in cooperation with the Saudi security forces,” he said. The group helped pilgrims from other nationalities too, he added. The group is supported by the Indian consulate in Jeddah and some welfare societies in India. “We are only doing it for Allah's reward,” said Kutty.
