MAKKAH: The use of Mobily networks in the holy sites increased by 46% as compared to last year's figures, according to an official statement issued by the company Monday. Similarly, call success rates reached new highs, explaining the increase in demand on networks from current Mobily customers and pilgrims from abroad choosing to roam on Mobily's network. In statements, Humoud Al-Ghobaini, Mobily's Vice President for Corporate Communications and Public Relations, said Mobily had five master switching centers (MSCs) in the area, each with a capacity of half million users, backed by two international switching centers with unprecedented capacity for local and international calls, and messaging. “The performance of our networks, whether that be 2G, 3G exceeds international benchmarks,” he added. Furthermore, Al-Ghobaini added, Mobily's marketing and availability through points of sale all over the holy sites were crucial to this success. Meanwhile, Mobily's free public WiFi also witnessed an increased usage, mostly from public officials and workers tasked with serving pilgrims. This year, Mobily is the official partner for “Haj is Worship and a Civilized Behavior” in cooperation with the Makkah Region Emirate. As part of that partnership, Mobily distributed hundreds of thousands of gift, umbrellas among pilgrims and provided free public WiFi.
