The Bureau of Fishery Research in Qatif has confirmed Saturday that there are no more dead fish floating along the shores in the Arabian Sea along the coast of Qatif, Sihat and Tarot Island. “As of today, we found no more dead fish. We are, however, continuing our investigations and try to zero in on the exact cause. If it is pollution, which most fishermen suspected, then we will address the issue,” a spokesman of the center said. He said it could be a week more before the center will be able to determine the cause of death of the tons of dead fish that were washed ashore last week. An official at the marine environment section of the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment in Dammam admitted his section does not know about the incidence of the dead fish. “I do not know about the dead fish, and I cannot give you any information,” the official told Saudi Gazette. He refused to comment whether the areas where the dead fish were found floating are polluted due to discharge of untreated industrial water and oil spills from tankers and fishing vessels plying that busy sea lane. __
