Authorities announced the capture in London of James Earl Ray, the suspected assassin of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. James Earl Ray was later jailed for 99 years in Memphis after admitting that he murdered Dr Luther King. He pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty. __
