IISJ dominates athletics

JEDDAH: Hosts International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) dominated the proceedings on the second day of the 20th Cluster Meet of the CBSE-affiliated schools of the Kingdom here Monday.
As 20 finals were gone through in athletics for boys and girls IISJ grabbed nine titles while another strong IIS contingent from Dammam claimed six, followed by Riyadh 3. The other two titles were shared by Al-Yasmin International School Riyadh and newcomers Novel International School Jeddah.
While the boys had the privilege and pleasure of exhibiting their talent at an international stadium here the girls vied for honors at the boys school premises.
IISJ's Rashid Salim led the hosts challenge by stealing the show in Under-19 high jump. Salim, who remains unbeaten in the event ever since he started taking part in the competition from the Under-14 age group onwards, underlined his superiority in the event by emerging an easy winner. Mohammed Faisal of IISD stood second and Rahul R Nair of Al-Aliya Riyadh finished third.
Salim, who had won honors in the national CBSE meets earlier, had the privilege of taking the games torch during the last leg and igniting the games caldron on the opening day Sunday.
In the girls section IIS Riyadh shared the spoils with IIS Jeddah by claiming two crowns each. The fifth final went to IIS Dammam.
