It was a marathon evening of laughter for Urdu-speaking community members here. Mustafa Ali Baig entertained the audience with his witty Anglo-Urdu poetry and unique style of presentation at “Jashne Mizah” presented by Tanzeem Hum Hindustani (THH). Mohammed Quaiser, president, THH presided over the function. The evening had three segments: jokes, humorous prose and humorous poetry sessions. In the first session, anchored by witty Amir Gaffar Siddique, audience roared with laughter on the jokes presented by Khazi Atiuddin, M. A Mujeeb, Dr Ozair Ghazi, Azam Omer, Aleem Khan Falaki and Mustafa Ali Baig. The second session anchored by Meer Ahmed Ali was exhilarating and had more subtle humor. Aleem Khan Falaki's ‘Toub' was well-received by the audience. K. N Wasif's article ‘Mizah ka Robin Hood - Mustafa Ali Baig' was a very interesting caricature of Baig. Articles of Zakaria Sultan and Masihuddin had a sarcastic tone. In the third session, anchored by Tahir Bilal, M.A. Mujeeb, Aleem Khan Falaki, Shaukat Jamal, Dr Parvez Ahmed, Azra Naqvi and Mustafa Ali Baig recited their humourous poems and ghazals. Some of the poetry had a flavor of Hydrabdi dialect, while other had the delicacy of chaste Urdu, and of course Baig's poetry had the witty and skillful combination of Urdu and English. Mohammed Quaiser, in his presidential speech, promised that such events would be regularly conducted every year. Chief guest Hifzur Rahman expressed his concern on the fact that the forthcoming generation would not have any successor akin to a poet like Mustafa Ali Baig. __
