JEDDAH: People in Jeddah who throw trash in the street face SR150 fines, officials said Saturday at the launch of an anti-littering awareness campaign. The campaign, launched at the Jeddah Mayoralty headquarters, is part of a cooperation program among the Saudi Environmental Society, Jeddah Mayoralty, Jeddah Police Traffic Department and Al-Naghy Car Company. “We have set different plans and programs to start with the campaign to make Jeddah cleaner,” said Prince Nawaf, executive manager of the Saudi Environmental Society. “We regret any kind of behavior by residents that pollutes the environment.” The campaign includes brochures and posters in different languages to boost public awareness, increase the culture of cleanliness and send a clear message to drivers that throwing garbage out of car windows is unacceptable, organizers said. Information will be posted throughout the city and distributed at schools and other locations, organizers added. Prince Mish'al Bin Majed, Governor of Jeddah, was among those who attended the event to launch the campaign. Okaz Organization for Press and Publication is the campaign's media sponsor.
