Published in The Saudi Gazette on 05 - 11 - 2010

BALI, Indonesia: Former No. 1 Ana Ivanovic dispatched third-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-0, 6-1 and wild card Kimiko Date Krumm edged top-seeded Li Na 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in the Tournament of Champions Thursday.
The unseeded Ivanovic won the first 11 games against Pavlyuchenkova, a two-time winner on tour this year.
The Serb said winning the Generali Ladies in Austria three weeks ago, ending a two-year title drought, had boosted her confidence.
In the semifinals she'll meet 40-year-old Date Krumm, who came from 3-1 down in the last set to beat China's Li, converting her fourth match point when Li double-faulted.
No. 2-seeded Aravane Rezai of France plays Alisa Kleybanova of Russia, and No. 4 Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium meets Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia to complete the semifinals lineup in the eight-woman tournament.
Soderling thru
In Valencia, Robin Soderling claimed his 50th win of the year in beating Daniel Gimeno-Traver of Spain 6-2, 6-3 Thursday in the second round of the Valencia Open.
The second-seeded Swede won 24 of 26 points on his first serve and saved both break points he faced in the match. He used strong returns to break the Spaniard twice in the first set and once more in the second, wrapping up the win in little more than an hour.
Fourth-seeded David Ferrer of Spain also advanced, beating Russia's Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-4, 6-1.
Sixth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko of Russia defeated Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina 7-6 (0), 6-2 while Italy's Potito Starace bested Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay, 7-6 (2), 2-6, 6-2.
Marcel Granollers of Spain also advanced beating compatriot Pablo Andujar 6-2, 6-2. Gael Monfils of France, meanwhile, beat Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland 6-2, 6-4.
Nalbandian beats Cilic
In Switzerland, David Nalbandian set his sights on a top 10 return after beating sixth-seeded Marin Cilic 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the Swiss Indoors quarterfinals Thursday.
Nalbandian next faces fourth-seeded Andy Roddick who eased through 6-3, 6-4 against Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan.
Second-seeded Novak Djokovic won 6-4, 7-6 (6) against Jarkko Nieminen after the Finn squandered two set points in the tiebreaker.
Czech wild card Radek Stepanek earned a quarterfinal against Roger Federer by beating Santiago Giraldo of Colombia 3-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Richard Gasquet of France won 6-4, 7-5 against Germany's Tobias Kamke. Gasquet has a last-eight match against Viktor Troicki of Serbia, who got a walkover win when Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu withdrew citing a knee injury.
