YANBU: A member of staff at Yanbu's Royal Commission Hospital has confirmed the claims of Ibrahim Al-Enezi, who said his wife was ignored by doctors resulting in her giving birth in a corridor in the emergencies department. “I saw him begging for a bed for over quarter of an hour, but his pleadings were turned down,” said Dr. Basim Al-Qarafi. “A woman doctor said that hospital management had instructed no new cases to be admitted.” Baby Maryam was born just under two weeks ago in front of bystanders after her parents had been told there were no beds available in the hospital. “Nurses said we should look for somewhere else,” Al-Enezi said. “My wife was in extreme discomfort, so I took her into emergencies, and there she gave birth, and the baby fell onto the floor, in front of everyone in the corridor. I started calling out for help and medical staff came.” His wife said that a doctor and nurse then checked the child's health before admitting her and her baby to the children's ward. “There were two free beds there,” she said. Her husband, a teacher at the Royal Commission in Yanbu, said the hospital should be “taken to task”. “I and my work colleagues should also be given private medical insurance to ensure that similar incidents do not happen again,” he said.
