JEDDAH: The head of a hospital in Jeddah has been deducted five day's pay and barred from occupying senior posts over the abduction of an infant girl from one of his wards. The child, who was found the day after the incident near her grandfather's house, had been taken to hospital with a high temperature by her father who left her in a bed and went to get her brother. On his return, neither he nor staff were able to locate his daughter. According to the father's testimony, the hospital director-designate refused to take his story seriously. “He did not react at all and did not notify security soon enough,” the father stated. His complaint also noted that the camera control room was not accessed for several hours as staff searched for the key. Recordings later showed a man entering and exiting the baby's room a number of times before finally leaving through an emergency door with the girl in his arms. The ministry's investigation committee concluded that the director-designate did not properly carry out his duties, was late in informing the police, failed to notify security guards and was slow in opening the camera control room.
