KUWAIT CITY: The discovery of two packages containing explosives on aircraft destined for the United States will be prominent among discussions at the 29th meeting of GCC interior ministers in Kuwait Tuesday. The two-day meeting will be attended by ministers from Kuwait, the UAE, Oman and Bahrain, with the Saudi delegation headed by Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. Gulf security officials told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that counter-terrorism will top the agenda following the rise in terrorist threats and the danger from the so-called Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula organization which is using Yemen as a launch-base to target the Kingdom and countries in the region. “The ministers will reiterate their support for Yemen in its war against Al-Qaeda and its efforts to foil its criminal plots, and highlight the Kingdom's support and considerable security efforts in fighting terrorism both in hand-on work and through information,” a security official said. The meeting will also address a range of other security issues such as narcotics, money laundering and organized crime. The meeting's conclusions and recommendations will be presented at the Gulf Summit meeting to be held next month in Abu Dhabi.
