Sayyid, Consultant Periodontist at the Armed Forces Hospital in Riyadh, has been awarded the King Abdul Aziz Medal First Class. The royal order for the award has come in recognition of her research on kidney transplant patients which led to the discovery of the gene disorder that causes swollen gums. “The government has continually shown its support for national staff and provided them with the means to further their scientific and professional standards,” Dr. Al-Sayyid said. “I'd like to thank everyone who has supported me and I pray to Allah to grant all Saudis success in every field to serve this nation.” Dr. Al-Sayyid is a leading periodontist in dental implantation and was the first Saudi and Arab woman doctor to earn distinction in gum surgery. She also helped set up and chaired the first Saudi fellowship dental implantation program and has worked in developing the Canadian dental implantation system.
