JEDDAH: A brace by Juan Manuel Olivera handed Al-Shabab a 2-1 away win against Al-Ahli in their Zain Saudi Professional League encounter at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium here Tuesday.
Shabab is now 10th on 10 points but still has four matches in hand. Ahli on the other hand remains 12th on seven points with one match in hand.
Brazilian striker Victor Simon put Ahli in the lead after eight minutes. But Shabab's Uruguayan striker Olivera leveled the score 16 minutes after the break before scoring again 13 minutes later to hand Shabab its third win.
Playing on their field, Ahli looked eager to win the match, especially since the team had lost some 15 points in the league. Ahli goalkeeper Yasser Al-Mosayleem succeeded in denying several Shabab attempts.
Ahli went ahead in the eighth minute when Simon tabbed the ball in as Shabab keeper Waleed Abdullah tried to block Hasan Al-Rahib's shot.
The goal spurred Shabab players into action who started launching serious attacks against their host, but alert Al-Mosayleem kept them at bay.
Al-Mosayleem continued defending his goal after the break and foiled at least five real chances. Shabab, however, went level in the 60th minute when Ahli defender Kamil Al-Mousa brought down Shabab midfielder Ahmed Otaif in the area. Olivera made no mistake on the resulting penalty.
Olivera made it 2-1 again from the spot when Shabab was awarded a penalty after Simon handled Shabab's Marcelo Camacho cross in the area.
Ahli was a man short after the 80th minute when midfielder Tayseer Al-Jassim was given his marching orders for being aggressive with Otaif of Shabab.
Minutes later, Ahli striker Emad Al-Hosani fell down in the visitors' area and was shown a yellow card.
