Faisal, the Emir of Makkah, has issued directives for the formation of a committee, including experts from various security agencies, to combat administrative corruption in the region. The Emir's decision is aimed at ensuring “transparency” and to “fight this menace in the service of the country, citizens and residents”, according to a report carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). It is also meant to support the country's socio-economic reforms and to “achieve financial and administrative discipline in all the state's institutions and agencies”. “It also confirms the King's directives to combat administrative corruption, and the national strategy for the protection of honesty. The decision is also aimed at [monitoring] the performance of government agencies, to spot any shortcoming and deficiency, and to overcome it immediately,” said the SPA report.
