Khayal, a member of the Shoura Council, has proposed that a driving license number be issued to Saudi women to enable them to get an international driving license. The proposal, which he has already submitted to the council, is basically meant to enable Saudi women to drive cars outside the Kingdom if they pass the necessary tests. He said there are several ways Saudi women can obtain an international driving license, including applying for a license in an Arab country, if they are living in that country. He said this will allow women to obtain a local driving license and then an international license. In the same session the Shoura Council discussed on Sunday two articles on the Traffic Protocol signed in Vienna on Nov. 8, 1968, which allows those who have an international license to get a Saudi driving license. After a lengthy debate the council agreed to give the responsible committee at the Council more time to state its opinion on this matter because many countries have expressed reservations about the protocol.
