JEDDAH: Jeddah Cricket Association celebrated its second anniversary on the occasion of the 80th Saudi National Day by organizing three matches at its Usfan Complex here last week. The matches, played between six best teams from a pool of 45 registered clubs, also marked the beginning of the 2010-11 season. The games were played under special rules to give a chance to all players of a team a chance to show their skills. Each team had more than eleven players, while each batsman was allowed to face a maximum of 18 deliveries. Each bowler, meanwhile, was allowed to bowl a maximum of three overs. The first match saw Chairman-XI beat Vice Chairman-XI by six wickets. Batting first Vice Chairman-XI was bowled out for 124 runs. Chairman-XI scored the required runs for the loss of four wickets. Zubair was Vice Chairman's top scorer with 30 runs off 18 balls. Others major contributors to the team total were Rana Shahzad 22 and Hamid Bakth 18. Fast bowler Attaur Rehman picked up 4-27 for the Chairman-XI, while left-arm spinner Ashiq Ali bagged 3-19; Bilal and Shameem bagged a wicket each. Chairman-XI in reply reached the target in 11 overs. Fakhar was the hero of the match as he remained unbeaten on 40 runs off 12 balls. Ali Waris contributed 20 runs, Attaur Rehman 19, while Zain and Bilal added 10 each. Anas, Hamid Bakth, Rana Shahzad and Hanif picked up a wicket each for Vice Chairman-XI. In the second match of the day Vice President-XI scored a 53-run win over President XI. Batting first Vice President-XI made 201-8 in 16 overs and then send the President-XI packing for 148. Zahid Riaz (46), Ali (43), Uzair Khan (36) and Hashim Khan (25) were the winning side's main batsmen. Mohammad Ashfaq Hussain, skipper of President-XI, took 4-27, while Mansoor had 1-29. President-XI in reply could make only 148 runs. Sami Khan made 28, Najam Uddin 17, Mansoor 15, hiwle Munawwar and Owais scored 16 runs each. Left-arm spinner Faheem Pasha had figures of 4-24 with the ball, while Wasay took 3-23, Majid Bhatti 2-42 and Zameer 1-32. The third match saw General Secretary Administration-XI beat General Secretary-XI by two runs. General Secretary Administration-XI (GSA) batting first was bundled out for 190 in 18 overs. It then sent General Secretary-XI packing for 188 to edge to victory. Amer Shahzad hit a quick-fire 65 off 18 deliveries for GSA. others who were among the runs were Jawad (26 not out) and Sajid (17). Ibrahim Bin Mehfooz bagged 3-22, Shaan Manzoor 2-19 while skipper Jaleel, Mazhar, Abdullah and Afsar Khan had one wicket each for GS-XI. In reply Ibrahim Bin Mehfooz made 37, Amer 33, Mustafa 32, Mazhar 31 (retired hurt) for General Secretary-XI. Fast bowler Jawad was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-24 while Adnan and Kamran had one wicket each for GSA-XI. The Prize distribution ceremony was held after the matches. Syed Abdul Khadar Qasim, General Manager M/S Fatima Al-Aqqad Est., was the chief guest on the occasion, while Syed Mir Ghazanfar Ali Zaki was the Guest of Honor. Dr. Faiz Al-Abideen, chairman JCA; Mohammad Iqbal, President JCA; and Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Vice President JCA, thanked the sponsor for its continued backing to the Association's events. Trophies were given away to captains of the three winning teams. A plaque of appreciation was also given to the sponsor. Syed Ghazanfar Ali Zaki, General Secretary of Indian Youth Welfare Association (IYWA), was also awarded a cup as a token of appreciation for his outstanding contribution in community service. __
