Rangers won its first trophy in three years on Sunday, defeating Dundee United in the League Cup final 3-2 on penalty kicks. Substitute Kris Boyd was the key for Rangers - scoring equalizing goals in both regular and extra time and converting the winning spot kick. Noel Hunt put Dundee United ahead in the 34th minute after Morgaro Gomis' initial shot was pushed away by Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor. Boyd, who had come on in the 61st minute, leveled in the 85th for Rangers after taking advantage of poor defending from Mark Kerr to force the game into extra time. Mark De Vries gave Dundee United a 2-1 lead after six minutes of extra time. Boyd came to Rangers' rescue again to level the game at 2-2 with a headed goal with two minutes remaining in the second half of extra time. Rangers missed two penalty kicks, and McGregor saved two of Dundee United's three failed conversion attempts - setting up Boyd to score the decisive goal.Fulham wins Brian McBride scored the lone goal Sunday in Fulham's 1-0 win over visiting Everton, giving the struggling club its first victory in the Premier League in more than a month. Fulham's attempt to climb out of the relegation zone was also helped by fellow struggling club Bolton's 1-0 loss to 10-man Wigan. Bolton has 25 points in 18th place, with Fulham one place and two points behind. Only five points separate 14th-place Reading from Fulham in 19th.
