day event, the “National Day Tournament”, comprising two matches was organized at Western Province Cricket Association Complex to commemorate the day last week. Four teams, two from the Premiere Division and one each from Level I and Level II League Clubs, took part in the competition. The Premiere Division teams were WPCA White and WPCA Green while the other teams were WPCA Yellow and WPCA Blue. On Eskan I the Whites beat Greens by four wickets. Opting to bat first Green put on 158-9 in their quota of 18 overs. Captain Shafeeq could score only five, Captain Shafeeq, opening for the Greens, returned back for 5 runs. The other opener, Amir Sajjad, played a quick innings of 34 with Abid, who hit 50. Hasanat added 23 and Niyaz 14. For the Whites Wajahat took 2-2, as Shahnawaz bagged 2-29 and Amjad 2-26. The Whites in reply were home in the 17th over thanks to their prolific batsmen Abdullah Essa, who remained unbeaten on 81 off 43 balls. Babar made 35 and Faiq added 21 and Farooq remained unbeaten on 11 as the team reached the winning target for the loss of six wickets. Abdullah Essa was adjudged the man of the match. The Whites' captain Wajahat received the winning trophy. WPCA Blue won the other match against WPCA Yellow by six wickets at Eskan 4. WPCA Yellow, batting first, put on 172 for 6 in the stipulated 18 overs with Manjeet making 42 and Emaad 38. Zubair scored 19 and Laiq remained not out on 26. Abdul Jabbar took 3-35 and Sarfaraz picked up 2-28 for the Blues. The Blues were off to a flying start with Opener Usman, firing on all cylinders, compiling 77 off 35 deliveries. Aleem scored 37, Babar 17 and Faiyyaz 10 as the team reached 173 for four. Nadeem took 3-21 for the Yellows. Usman was named the man of the match for his batting. Hasan Aseeri was the Guest of Honor at the prize distribution ceremony, which was held after the matches. Also present on the occasion were WPCA committee members. __
