RIYADH: Saudi Telecom Company (STC), the Kingdom's leading telecoms operator, has announced it will soon launch iPhone 4, which is expected to be the world's thinnest model with the highest-ever resolution display built into an Apple phone. Competing closely with its rival Mobily, which launched an iPhone model last year, an STC source said the launch is part of the company's commitment to provide consers in Saudi Arabia with the latest 3G technologies on a highly advanced network. “We are preparing for the big launch of iPhone 4 in the Kingdom very soon,” said the official source. The launch is in line with STC's efforts to offer its subscribers the best in communication technology, enabling them to benefit from the latest innovations and applications, he said. With this launch, consumers will have an even greater choice of smart phones. However, with the rise in the number of smart phones in the Saudi market, particularly the popularity of brands such as BlackBerry, iPhone, Nokia and Samsung, there has also been a surge in fake models. The fakes look almost exactly like the real thing. Consumers can buy Nokia's X-6 or even BlackBerry phones for as little as SR250 and even less depending on a person's ability to bargain with vendors. However, vendors do explain the difference in the features of the fake models, which are mostly made in China. The fake X-6 model can allow for the insertion of two Sim cards and has an inferior camera.
