known Saudi artist, Talal Abdul Rahman Mouminah, is holding a one-man exhibition of his work on the traditions and sights of the old city at Sizan Art House. The exhibition which started on Oct. 6 will end on Oct. 15. The Saudi Society of Culture and Arts, under the patronage of Dr. Abdullah Hammod Al-Harbi, a member of the Shoura Council, organized the exhibition. The exhibition was inaugurated by Ahmed Abdullah Al-Hussani, president of Jeddah TV, on behalf of Al-Harbi, in the presence of a number of Saudi artists and citizens. Mouminah has 56 of his paintings on display, which offer glimpses of the old city, including the famous old market of Balad, ancient Hijazi houses, different moods and expressions of Hijazi women, the Red Sea, fishermen, Hijazi wedding ceremonies, portraits of horses, and Hijazi music and dance. “Through my art, I want to let people know about our traditions and heritage, which we are forgetting. Many places in Jeddah have changed, like the old Souk, the lifestyle of fishermen, the buildings, the way people travelled on horses and camels, and weddings and other celebrations. I want to keep these places and things alive with my paintings,” he said. Al-Hussani praised Mouminah's work, saying it was a “fantastic and fabulous mixture of past and future. I felt Jeddah everywhere in each painting. I liked it because we can see Jeddah as we have never seen it before. Also, his paintings of horses are excellent. He successfully portrayed Jeddah's culture, heritage and traditions,” said Al-Hussani. Abdullah Nawavi, the president of the Saudi Society of Culture and Arts, also had high praise for the work, saying that Mouminah was doing “something very important in the history of the country”. He said Mouminah has successfully moved from abstract art to classical art with his latest work.
