doping prosecutor has received a sharp rebuke from the country's cycling federation after he suggested in an interview with the Associated Press that doping is so widespread it should possibly be legalized if not for the health risks. In his first interview in two years, Ettore Torri told The AP Tuesday that after four years in the job he is convinced all cyclists are doping. Cycling federation president Renato di Rocco said Wednesday that Torri's comments left him “flabbergasted,” coming from someone in his position, adding they have caused “enormous harm to our movement.” “I'm not the only one saying it. Lately, all of the cyclists I've interrogated have said that everyone dopes,” the 78-year-old Torri had said. “The longer I'm involved in this the more I marvel at how widespread doping is,” Torri said. “And I don't think it will be eradicated. Because it just evolves continuously. There are new substances coming out that can't be tested for.” Italian Olympic Committee president Giovanni Petrucci and secretary general Raffaele Pagnozzi met with Torri Wednesday to reaffirm their battle against doping.
