JIZAN: Three people were killed by lightning strikes in the town of Al-Mawsim when heavy storms struck Jizan Monday. Civil Defense spokesman Yahya Al-Qahtani said that two young women and a young man died, and warned the public to stay away from unsafe areas and to not take risks crossing valley floors during rainfall. Many areas lost electricity for several hours due to lightning strikes and roads were cut off by rains. Residents of Al-Mawsim criticized the failure of drainage systems to cope with the quantity of the deluge, leading to flooding around areas of housing. “These latest rains have shown that the municipality's water projects are not up to scratch,” said Nasser Bashir. “Chunks of roads have fallen in and cracks have appeared in some buildings.” The Jizan regions of Sabya, Abu Uraish , Ahad Al-Masaraha and Dhamd, also saw heavy rainfall, putting a halt to agricultural work at many farms and cutting off homes from other settlements.
