A prominent feature at the Souq Okaz cultural festival in Taif which closed Saturday was the contribution of the King Abdul Aziz Library and its gallery of photographs from the 1939 visit to the Kingdom of Princess Alice of Great Britain, the grand-daughter of Queen Victoria. The gallery captured a variety of moments from the princess's journey, including her husband's meeting with King Abdul Aziz which produced what may be the first ever color pictures of the founder of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The images also showed Princess Alice passing through Taif on her way to Riyadh, her stay at the Royal Guest Palace and a visit to Diri'ya, as well as her trips to Al-Ahsa, Dammam and Bahrain, from which she departed for Cairo before returning to the United Kingdom. King Abdul Aziz Library also offered presentations of its most significant projects and activities, such as its national campaign to promote reading, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Translation Prize, the Unified Arab Index, and its Children's Library, as well as its airport “reading corners” scheme, its online services, and its wide range of publications.
