JEDDAH: A total of SR30,000 was raised by organizers here to assist young people to get married. The money will be used to buy 54 cookers as gifts for the young couples. The money was raised in a special dishwashing event, where one riyal was donated for every dish washed. The check handover took place in Jeddah Wednesday with participants including Yousuf Al-Jarrah, the well-known Saudi comedy actor, who was the ambassador of the campaign. Dr. Abdullah Al-Homrani, who is director of the financial and administrative affairs of the society, received the check from Ammar Al-Nagadi, the products manager of the Modern Products Company (MPC). Al-Jarrah told the media that the dishwashing campaign was appropriate for the fundraiser. “Just imagine a newly married young man who heads to the kitchen, rolls up his sleeves and gears up for dishwashing,” joked Al-Jarrah. Hussein Bin Ali Hareth, public relations officer at the society, said the charity has assisted about 50,000 couples to get married since its inception in 2000. “Last year's mass wedding was an international event. Even Fox TV aired the wedding on its channel,” he added.
