Parks in the city will be replanted and improved, a municipal official responsible for the parks said. Bahjat Bin Tal'at Hamwa, director general of the Parks, Afforestation and Municipal Facilities Department in Jeddah, told Arabic daily Al-Watan that planting and renovation work is under way in Al-Doha and Al-Nahda parks. The 60,000 square meters of gardens are situated on Al-Andalus street to the west of the Al-Hamra Palace. Other parks earmarked for improvement are the 22,000-square-meter Al-Abrar Park in Bani Malek, the 20,000-square-meter Al-Zohour Park on King Abdullah Road, and the 3,000-square-meter Holiday Inn Park in Obhur's southern Corniche. This is in addition to work on Al-Jamal roundabout, Prince Naif Park and Walkway, and Al-Arba'een Park, which occupy areas of 15,000 square meters, 26,000 square meters and 21,000 square meters, respectively. All the areas will be fenced and equipped with new games for children, new lamp posts and trashcans, within six months. In total the green areas of Jeddah will equal roughly 160,000 square meters. Hamwa said that landscaping on Jeddah streets and the modernization of the irrigation systems is ongoing. Work on parts of King Abdulaziz Road, King Fahd Road and several locations within the boundary of the Dhahban area and east Jeddah will also be completed soon. __
