A book on breast cancer, published in sign language for women with hearing disabilities, was launched on Tuesday in Jeddah. The author is Dr. Samia Al-Amoudi, executive director of the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Husain Al-Amoudi Center of Excellence in Breast Cancer at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. The book was launched by Princess Seeta Bint Abdullah Al-Saud. Sign language experts in Jeddah have helped to revise the book, including Mohammed Abu Madra, head of the city's Deaf Men's Club; Faiza Natto, head of the Deaf Women's Club; and Dr. Aisha Natto, a member of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the women's deaf club. Al-Amoudi stressed the importance of early detection of breast cancer for women. With her book she aims to increase awareness of the condition among women living with a disability. The book provides women with all the information they need about breast cancer, with pictures to facilitate learning, said Al-Amoudi. As a medical practitioner, she has also decided to learn sign language to help communicate with women with hearing disabilities.
