World No. 2 Caroline Wozniacki powered her way past Greta Arn of Hungary to reach the third round of the Pan Pacific Open women's tennis tournament Tuesday. The Danish top seed, put the disappointment of withdrawing through illness in the first round last year behind her with a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Wozniacki comfortably took the first set as Arn hit seven double faults, one on a break point, and failed to keep her service games three times. Arn, who defeated Wozniacki when the Dane was ranked 120th in 2007, stopped double-faulting in the second set, but Wozniacki stood firm in her service games and never gave the Hungarian a single break opportunity in the set. Wozniacki broke the third game when Arn hit a forehand wide and cashed in on a second match point with Arn's backhand error that landed in the net for another break in the ninth game. Wozniacki next faces 16th-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia in the third round. Pavlyuchenkova beat Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine 6-2, 6-1. Japan's Kimiko Date Krumm celebrated her 40th birthday by progressing to the third round. Date Krumm won in her hometown when Daniela Hantuchova was forced to retire with a right shoulder injury while trailing 2-6, 6-0, 4-0. Elsewhere, Russia's Vera Zvonareva overpowered Italy's Sara Errani 6-3, 6-3. The tournament's No. 2 seeded player beat Errani for the third time in three meetings to set up a third-round showdown with Italy's Roberta Vinci, a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria. No. 7 Elena Dementieva of Russia trounced Kazakhstan's Yaroslav Shvedova 6-0, 6-1, while No. 8 Victoria Azarenka, prevailed over Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic 6-1, 6-3. Baghdatis advances In Kuala Lumpur, Marcos Baghdatis thrashed Kei Nishikori of Japan 6-1, 6-1 in his first match after a month's layoff to reach the second round of the Malaysian Open Tuesday. He will meet Colombia's Santiago Giraldo in the second round. Also Tuesday, two qualifiers - Russia's Igor Andreev and Canada's Milos Raonic - won through to the second round with comprehensive victories. Top seed and world No. 5 Robin Soderling of Sweden and third seed Tomas Berdych will play their second-round matches Thursday. Del Potro ousted Juan Martin del Potro's highly-anticipated return to the tour ended in a 7-6 (7), 6-4 defeat by Belgium's Olivier Rochus at the Thailand Open Tuesday. The 2009 US Open champion was playing his first match since a January loss to Marin Cilic in the fourth round of the Australian Open. He has since been sidelined with a wrist injury that required surgery. Top-seeded Rafael Nadal will play his first match since winning the US Open and completing a career Grand Slam when he faces Belgian qualifier Ruben Bemelmans on Thursday.
