A woman was killed by a speeding car while crossing the road in Abu Uraish on Sunday. Witnesses said that the four-wheel drive was unable to avoid the pedestrian and that she died on the spot. The driver of the vehicle was held for investigation. The incident has led to renewed calls from locals for a pedestrian bridge to be constructed over the section of the road that they describe as a “danger spot”, with concerns increased for the safety of children given the proximity of a primary school to the road.
