The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) issued a warning Monday concerning the powder infant formula Similac after some containers were found to contain beetles. The SFDA statement said that the producing company Abbott had recalled some Similac infant formula products following the discovery, and quoted the US Food and Drug Authority which said that while the beetles posed no immediate health risk, the possibility remained that infants consuming them or their larvae could experience discomfort and reject feeding. The SFDA said it was coordinating with the relevant bodies to prevent the product from entering the Kingdom and withdraw existing products from the market.
