Highway Police forcibly detained a 20-year-old man who threatened an officer with a knife when stopped for driving the wrong way along the Taif to Riyadh road on Saturday. Police said that the vehicle, which bore no registration plates, was pursued by patrols after refusing to stop and finally forced to a halt at which point the driver extracted a knife in attempting to resist arrest. Witnesses to the incident said the driver, who was taken to hospital after receiving an injury in the foot during the incident, could be heard shouting “unintelligible phrases”, and speculated that he may have been suffering from mental disturbances.
