Ghamdi, who is in charge of a committee for development and social affairs in Makkah Region, told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that officials in the Development Committee in Al-Kamil Governorate have been investigated for distributing leaflets during Eid celebrations reminding joyful people about death and the scene of funeral and grave. Al-Ghamdi said the officials have been made to sign documents stating that they will not repeat such acts, which would spoil the joy of Eid Al-Fitr. “It was not their job to begin with,” he said. “The distribution of such leaflets focusing on the torment in the grave and the story of Jinazah is not part of the job description of the committee,” he said. “It is the responsibility of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, which does not allow at all such contraventions.” Al-Ghamdi said officials will take additional measures to prevent future transgressions of this nature. Earlier this year, a Khamis Mushayt public school, south of the country, was warned and officials were punished for featuring a funeral scene at the morning assembly.
