Nakheel District, east of the Al-Haramain Highway, complained Monday of large amounts of water moving toward their neighborhood, apparently from a broken water pipe. They say the stagnant pools of water raise the threat of an outbreak of disease. Pools of water have now formed in the south and west sides of the district. The leak is coming from King Abdullah Bridge. It took six hours to cover both sides of the district. Water reached the district at 2 A.M. Monday, said Majed Ali, a resident of the district. He said residents are accustomed to seeing pools of water on the west side of the area. He accused the municipality of not listening to their complaints. He said he told a mayoralty official of the problem, but no action has been taken. The spokesman of the Jeddah Mayoralty could not be reached for comments. Ali said the pools of water are creating ideal conditions for breeding of mosquitoes and an outbreak of dengue fever. “I wish the municipality responds to the call we're making through the media because the bad smell will soon start to spread to homes,” he added.
