Expectations, especially in the West, are high that the conference on inter-faith dialogue starting in Makkah on Wednesday would help bridge the gap between Islam and other monotheistic religions. King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, will patronize the 3-day conference. The Muslim World League (MWL), the organizer of the conference, has completed all formalities and chalked out details of the conference. The conference paves the way for convening of another meeting that will help bring together the followers of different religions from all corners of the globe, Al-Hayat reported on Tuesday. King Abdullah announced in March that religious scholars in the Kingdom have agreed on the idea of convening an inter-faith dialogue conference. The main thrust of the exercise is to bring people from all monotheistic religions across a table to agree on measures that would safeguard humanity against disintegration. Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsen Al-Turki, MWL Secretary General, said all papers to be presented at the conference are based on genuine Islamic principles mentioned in the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah. More than 500 prominent Islamic figures from all over the world are taking part in the conference. __
