The General Assembly for Muslim Youth (WAMY) has called on countries and organizations to work together to provide relief aid for those people suffering from natural disasters around the world. This is the call from Dr. Saleh Al-Wuhaibi, Secretary General of WAMY, during a speech at a recent ceremony in Riyadh attended by 500 diplomats from 82 countries. He also highlighted the work of WAMY. “What is happening on our planet today is worrying. This summer has witnessed sweeping floods that have left millions of people homeless, and destroyed crops and infrastructure.” He said it has left behind “enormous destruction” in Pakistan. He also mentioned the leakage of millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico and the environmental impact which may remain for decades to come. He also highlighted the lack of rain and fires that have destroyed thousands of hectares in Russia. “I don't think we need more evidence and examples to stress the danger and the need for countries to cooperate in the face of these hazards.” “In case of mass displacement of people, as in Pakistan, the need is stronger for relief efforts and urgent assistance topped by shelter, food and medicine. On this occasion I praise the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the people of Saudi Arabia for their efforts and assistance that are appreciated by all of us,” he said.
