based World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) will host its eighth annual Iftar Party on Ramadan 19 (Aug. 29) at the InterContinental Hotel here. WAMY, one of the Kingdom's largest charity organizations, engaged in various humanitarian works, organizes Iftar parties to thank philanthropists, donors and regular contributors. Taking advantage of the specially invited gathering that includes ambassadors and diplomats from foreign missions based in Riyadh, Dr. Salah Al-Wohaiby, WAMY Secretary General, at past gatherings has outlined important issues facing charity work in the world. While addressing the gathering of august guests at last year's Iftar party, Dr. Al-Wohaiby discussed the drastic impact that the international financial crisis had on charity work. “The international financial crisis has had an impact on the charity work not only in the Gulf region but around the world. The financial crisis led to a drop in contributions which had a negative effect on charity work,” he said in last year's address. The WAMY official also called upon the international community to stand together and face challenges, such as the financial crisis, fighting religious extremism and the outbreak of swine flu that reached a pandemic level last year. Quoting from the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Dr. Al-Wohaiby said that the Messenger of Allah has said: “We are all like one human body and if the people in any country are affected by a crisis, it will have an effect on people living in other parts of the world.” Dr. Al-Wohaiby also made a detailed presentation at last year's Iftar party highlighting the organization's charity activities both inside and outside the Kingdom. A large number of philanthropists, donors and regular contributors to WAMY have been sent invitation cards to attend this year's Iftar party. Among the invited guests are a large number of ambassadors and diplomats from various foreign missions based in Riyadh. Customarily, WAMY invites an ambassador and a leading businessman to be the guest speakers on the occasion. Arturo Trejo, Mexican Ambassador and Dr. Tawfeeq Abd Aziz Al-Swaillem, a Saudi businessman and Lya Tidjani, Cameroon Ambassador were the guest speakers at last year's Iftar party.
