Stress on defending Islam, says Al-Turki
Saudi Gazette report
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 02 - 06 - 2008

The main focus of the international inter-faith dialogue would be the defense of Islam and Muslims against malicious campaign being waged against them in certain quarters, Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsen Al-Turki, Secretary General of the Muslim World League, has said.
He said the Muslim World League and the cooperating Islamic organizations are aware of the link between anti-Islamic campaigns and incitement of hatred against Muslims being portrayed as clash of civilizations, Al-Jazira reported on Sunday.
After the collapse of Communism, certain quarters perceived and stated that Islam was their enemy number one in the changed political situation, Al-Turki said.
Contrary to the spiteful campaign, Islam preaches peace and love and believes in co-existence of all segments of the society, he said.
“The Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, will serve as inspiration and guiding tool for the dialogue and the discourse with non-Muslims as well as the mutual relations, he said.
The Muslim World League is determined to stand up to the hate campaigns which seek to incite sedition among nations by holding dialogue seminars and conferences abroad, he said.
Dr. Al-Turki, who also serves as member of the Senior Ulema Council in the Kingdom, indicated that the dialogue conference will set the objectives of the Islamic dialogue with other faiths and cultures, with the Shariah rules of international relations and keenness on protecting Islam and its symbols against aggression and false accusations.
The MWL has also alerted a large number of cultural, political, religious and social leaders in the West to the dangers posed by these capricious anti-Islam campaigns and the consternation of Muslims at the constant tirade against their religion, their Holy Book and the Prophet (pbuh), he said.
Al-Turki appreciated the measures taken by the recent Islamic summit in Senegal to follow up on the League's activities in defending Islam and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). He also praised the summit's decision mandating the League with creating an international center for support of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). __
