New York Giants star Eli Manning suffered a deep gash to the left side of his temple on Monday in a 31-16 pre-season American football exhibition victory over the New York Jets. The quarterback was hurt 4:15 into the second quarter when running back Brandon Jacobs bumped into Manning, knocking the ball into the air. As Manning went to grab the ball he was struck in the back by Jets linebacker Calvin Pace. The impact knocked off Manning's helmet and slammed him forward where Jacobs, who recovered the ball, and Jets defender Jim Leonhard were standing. Manning struck them and fell to the turf and grabbed his head, trainers rushing onto the field as they saw his hand covered in blood. He walked off the field at New Meadowlands Stadium with a towel on his head to ease the bleeding. Fans gave Manning an ovation as he walked off. The team said he needed stitches to close a three
