The Baltimore Orioles committed three errors in the 13th inning to hand the Boston Red Sox a 5-2 win in the American League on Friday. Mike Lowell singled in the tiebreaking run and had three hits in all, with the Red Sox getting a club-record six stolen bases. The Red Sox were held scoreless for 11 straight innings before breaking through thanks to some shoddy late fielding by the Orioles. Tigers 7, Mariners 4: In Seattle, Detroit piled on seven runs in the first innings and could afford to go scoreless thereafter and still beat Seattle. Curtis Granderson singled and doubled in the first inning alone, when Brandon Inge also added a two-run triple. The Tigers had 12 of their 14 hits in the first five innings, including one by every starter in the lineup. The Tigers have won seven of their past eight against Seattle. Rays 2, White Sox 1: In St. Petersburg, Florida, Cliff Floyd lined a leadoff, walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth, giving the AL East-leading Tampa Bay a win over Chicago. Floyd's fourth homer of the season came against a White Sox bullpen that had not allowed an earned run in 28 innings. The Rays won a matchup of division leaders and raised their league-best record to 33-22 despite going only 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Yankees 6, Twins 5: In Minneapolis, Bobby Abreu tripled twice and scored all four times he reached base, leading New York over Minnesota. Abreu tied his career high with those four runs, helping pitcher Mike Mussina overcome a four-run first inning to record his seventh win in eight starts. Elsewhere it was: Rangers 3, Athletics 1; Indians 5, Royals 4; Blue Jays 10, Angels 4. Padres win At San Francisco, Khalil Greene drew a bases-loaded walk to force the go-ahead run in the 13th inning, and the San Diego Padres went on to beat the San Francisco Giants 7-3 in the National League on Friday. With two outs in the 13th, Greene worked his first bases-loaded walk for two years. A hit batter and then a two-run single gave the Padres a match-winning lead. Earlier, the Giants got their first triple play for nine years. Keiichi Yabu, with his first pitch of the game, got Kevin Kouzmanoff to hit to third base, where a force out was followed with throws to second and first. Phillies 12, Marlins 3: In Philadelphia, Chase Utley hit his major league-leading 18th homer to help Philadelphia down Florida. Phillies pitcher Brett Myers won for the first time in six weeks, striking out a season-high 11 batters. The Phillies won their fifth straight game to move into first place in the NL East – a half-game ahead of the Marlins. Cubs 10, Rockies 9: In Chicago, the home side overcame an eight-run deficit to edge Colorado. In other games it was: Dodgers 9, Mets 5; Reds 3, Braves 2, 11 innings; Nationals 7, Diamondbacks 4; Brewers 5, Astros 1; Cardinals 5, Pirates 4.
