A committee has been established to re-estimate prices for property that will be demolished for work on King Abdul Aziz Road, which links the Jeddah-Makkah Expressway with the Central Area surrounding the Grand Mosque in Makkah, an official source in the Makkah Mayoralty told Okaz/Saudi Gazette. The source confirmed that the law guarantees that citizens have the right for re-estimation of their properties if the project is not executed in two years. Makkah is witnessing the execution of several projects including the expansion of King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Road to the Grand Mosque, the new Zamzam plant and the new third and fourth ring roads. The source noted that the projects, in addition to completing the First Ring Road around the Grand Mosque, will significantly reduce traffic jams and overcrowding in the Central Area. The King Abdul Aziz Road project is located in the western part of Makkah. The road is 3,650 meters, from the western gateway to the city, the intersection of Jeddah Expressway and the Third Ring Road, to the Jabal Omar Project. It passes through districts that are characterized as being unplanned and covers an area reaching almost 1.2 million square meters. In the last four years, Umm Al-Qura Development and Construction Company, which was established as a public joint stock company for construction, development and operation of King Abdul Aziz Road project in Makkah, has carried out regulatory measures; technical, planning, engineering and feasibility studies; and preparation of the master plan, which was prepared with the help of specialist consultancy offices.
