Investigations are under way to determine the reasons behind the collapse of the Liyyah Valley Bridge when floods hit the area, Nasser Al-Hazmi, Director of the Ministry of Transport branch in Jizan Region, has said. The bridge at Al-Qufl village was completed three months ago, but collapsed quickly during the recent floods, he said. Harban Aal Haidar, Sheikh of Al-Qufl, said the bridge's collapse indicates that the reinforced iron bars used in the project were corroded and the concrete was weak. Village residents, who are isolated from their surroundings, had demanded that authorities investigate the matter. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Jibran Al-Sumaili of the neighboring Al-Laqiyyah village has called for close supervision of a project to build a bridge linking the village with Khobah and Samta.
